(Oct. 6)THE HERO WALK: The Hero Foundation Walk raises awareness of the need for Designated Drivers to prevent drunken driving tragedies. It was founded by William and Muriel Elliott who lost their son, Navy Ensign John R. Elliott, to a drunken driver after he graduated with merit from the Naval Academy in July of 2,000.
The Elliott's have been instrumental in promoting numerous HERO programs throughout the country that have no doubt saved many lives. The program continues to gain momentum nationally.
Last year 2,000 supporters helped the organization raise over $100,000 for the campaign. The Ocean City Walk will be held Sunday Oct. 6th on the Boardwalk. Registration will be 9 a.m. at the Sports and Civic Center, 6th and Boardwalk. Walk begins 11 a.m.
