(Sept. 22) Over 350 CORVETTES will roll into Ocean City on Sunday. The huge show will include all Corvette models ever produced. The Boardwalk Corvette Club reports the display will stretch from 5th to 14th Streets on the boardwalk. The exhibit is scheduled from 11a.m. to 4 p.m. No bikes will be permitted in the area during this time. 

The Sunday event provides a unique opportunity to see the 1960 Le Mans Corvette on display prior to the movie premier. It will be parked in front of the Music Pier at 5 p.m. followed by the Quest film at 6 p.m. There will be a meet and greet with the filmmakers at 7:45 p.m. Tickets are $20. All proceeds benefit the Chip Miller charitable foundation.

Corvette enthusiast Corey Korpita will create two sand sculptures of Corvettes during the afternoon on the beach opposite the Music Pier.

(Sept. 20) The Cape May County American Legion Posts will conduct the POW/MIA Recognition Day Ceremony on Friday, September 20, 2013 to ensure that those courageous Americans, who gave their lives to preserving and protecting our freedom, will never be forgotten. The Ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the Veteran's Memorial located at the Ocean View Service Area on the Garden State Parkway (mile marker 18.3). All members of the community, especially veterans, are encouraged to attend.  

(Sept. 21) WALK to Defeat ALS. Registration begins 9 a.m. at the 6 th St. Practice Field, next to the Sports and Civic Center. The two mile walk raises funds to support patient services and research into finding a cure for Lou Gehrig's disease. (Sept. 22) The Ocean City Environmental Commission is hosting a Bay Clean Up from noon to 2 p.m. at the Tennessee Ave. Boat Ramp. Residents, visitors and groups are encouraged to bring their Kayaks and canoes.

The Environmental Commission asks volunteers to meet in the boat ramp parking area at 11:45 a.m. The Commission will provide work gloves and bags. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older and a waiver form must be signed. For more information, contact City Hall at (609) 399-6111 ext. 9285.

(Sept.14)  The Ocean City Municipal Airport's Annual Festival will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 26th and Bay Ave. Admission is free.

The event will feature ground displays of World War 2 Bombers including the B -25J Mitchell Bomber and WW2 Grumman TBM Avenger. There will be air demonstrations and ground displays of Classics, Antiques, Ultra Lights, War Birds, Home Builts, Military Vehicles and Antique Cars.

There will be Model Air Plane flying demonstrations by the New Jersey Pine Barons RC Club of Mt. Laurel and a banner pick up. Helicopter and Airplane rides will be available for a fee. In addition there will be a Kite Festival by Air Circus of Ocean City, Face Painting, a Paper Air Plane Contest and Refreshments.

(Sept. 6-8)  STREET RODS, colorful, classic cars, return to Ocean City this weekend. The vehicles arrive starting Friday at noon and depart Sunday at 1p.m. following an awards ceremony. They will be on display at the Tabernacle Grounds, 6th and Asbury Ave., a new location this year.

JUST UPDATED NEW FEMA FLOOD MAPS: SUMMARY: Ocean City has 3 properties moving into the V zone and just over 3,000 homes moving from the V zone to the A zone.   Great new over all for Ocean City.  Stone Harbor was the biggest loser as they added 37 homes into the V zone. Over all in Cape May County there will be an 88% decrease in the V Zones from the Preliminary maps. As suspected panic, fear and hype were all but squashed with the release of these new maps. ONLY took the bureaucrats almost 1 year!-Thx!

On Fri., Aug. 30, a group of "right proper ploppers" will vie for the title of the King and Queen of Plop or Mr. Fall Guy or Miss Fall Gal. After the winner is announced contestants hold hands and perform a "mass plopping" as a goodwill, no sore loser gesture.   Contestants may register starting 10:30 a.m. at 9th St. Beach. FIREWORKS!

Residents and visitors will enjoy an additional FIREWORKS SHOW this season, a gigantic display ignited from a barge off the 9th Street Beach on Sat., Aug. 24.

The event is a thank you to everyone who supported us this season in the aftermath of Super Storm Sandy. It also recognizes the quick action by the City and the work of our many volunteer groups like OCNJ C.A.R.E. that made a quick recovery possible.

The event begins 7:30 p.m. in front of the Music Pier, reports Michele Gillian, executive director of the Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce. It will begin with a program of non denominational "prayer and song" by local clergy and choirs. At 8 p.m., there will be continuous entertainment on the Boardwalk featuring bands, strolling entertainers and costumed characters. At 10 p.m. the huge fireworks display will commence visible the entire length of Boardwalk and in many parts of the City.

Earlier in the day on Aug. 24, CLAM SHELL Pitching will enjoy a major revival when the first International Martin Z. Mollusk Clam Drain Championships are held on the beaches between 5th and 6th St. The shell tossing extravaganza is the idea of avid beach goer and pitching enthusiast Joe McGettigan.

Sign ups are noon to 2 p.m. on the beach with games starting at 3 p.m. Clam Drains will be loaned for free to all that do not already have them. (Aug. 22) Ocean City Fishing Pier OPEN HOUSE: The Ocean City Fishing Club is celebrating its 100th Anniversary this year. One of its special events is a series of open house events to acquaint visitors with its facilities and memorabilia. The third and final open house will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the historic 635 Ft. facility, 14th and Boardwalk. Visitors are invited to take photos and enjoy the spectacular view. They may also leave an optional donation of canned goods for the Ocean City Food Cupboard.

The oldest, continuously operating Fishing Club in the United States will be hosting a three day Centennial Surf Fishing Tournament for East Coast Teams, Oct. 17-19.
